About The Role


The purpose of this role is to:
-    Be a Business Partner for the APAC region, including ZGS entities
-    Execute the ‘traditional’ Business Development functions 
-    Project Lead and implement key Business related projects.
-    Being involved in Project Horizon, for such as the development, testing and implementation.
-    All other duties reasonably assigned, whether in other Finance and Accounting areas.


Business Partner
-    Have a clear view of the APAC region strategy as part of the bigger picture and contribute to its planning and execution.
-    Provide advice and guidance to the Executive Officer and Heads of Departments in relation to fiscal trends and considerations, including but not limited to commercial practices, foreign exchange, economic context for trade, government policy, cash flow, budgeting, procedures, etc.
-    Creating a consumer-centric finance function with a value-added mindset.

-    Traditional Business Development:Lead budget/forecast and long-term plan development
-    Business Partnering to assist the business with all non-Must Win business cases and/or strategic modelling;
-    Finance functions such as valuations, customer profitability, detailed financial modelling, due diligence, commercial negotiations and Zespri Pool/Corporate analysis;
-    Monitor project benefit tracking to ensure that these correspond with the approved business case;
-    Assist the Head of Finance - APAC with formulating strategic initiatives. Assist with ‘business-as-usual’ implementation of new processes if required and ‘on-boarding’ of new initiatives into forecasting / budgeting.


Project Lead specific key Projects:

  • Projects that are more Value, Strategic and Finance in nature may be assigned to the Commercial Manager Finance for implementation e.g. GAIA, Korea Reset for Growth
  • The Commercial Finance Manager role is predominantly to drive, coordinate and execute tasks across the two functions described above as assigned by the Regional Finance Manager - APAC, leveraging other Zespri resources or Business Development team members (in the markets or in New Zealand) as required.



Business Case Development: 
•    drive and guide the Project Business Lead through the process of formulating a business case.
•    ensuring that all relevant research and analysis is carried out prior to the creation of the business case.
•    Whilst mentoring the Project Business Lead ensure the business case has the following key components:
o    Strategic Fit;
o    Identification of various alternatives and a recommended option;
o    Clear and defined scope;
o    Skills and people resources required;
o    Project timeline considering the interaction with BAU, and other projects;
o    Cross functional business implications (e.g. Finance / IS / HR / Tax / Legal);
o    A defined procurement process;
o    Risks and mitigations;
o    Key benefits and the targets for achievement. These must be measurable and attributable discretely to the project, and owned by the business;
•    Ensure it is fit-for-purpose and appropriate for the audience. (i.e. at the Steering Committee level may be quite detailed, for the Board would be summarised to the key points)
•    guide / mentor the Project Business Lead and ensure consistency / quality control of business cases. 
•    ensure timely business case delivery, and guide the Business Project Lead through the approval stage gating steps (e.g. Sponsoring Exec, Steering Committee, Executive Team and Board). 
•    Write program funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
•    Depending on complexity, it is expected that a Commercial Finance Manager may be involved in 2 – 5 business cases at any one time.





Analytical Support: 
•    As required provide analytical support , at times this role will be responsible for complete coordination and delivery, and sometimes mentoring and guiding team members. 
•    As required download, organise, model and report on complex data. You will need to understand and model complex scenarios and be proficient in interfacing with Zespri’s data systems.
•    Check your own work for reasonableness and proving critical thinking to group discussions is a key deliverable.
•    Work must be of a high standard that creates and maintains trust. 


•    Ensure the correct process for project prioritisation and acquiring project resources.
•    Accountable for ensuring the business case should reflect the Zespri agreed best practice.
•    Assist Business Project Lead with the facilitation and execution of workshops. Offshore travel and involvement in online conference calls outside normal business hours maybe required.
•    Ensure the proposed project costs / benefits are flowed into ‘fund the journey’ model for the wider transformation programme. 


•    Where appropriate leverage the standard Business Development analytical models. 
•    Enhance, improve or create standard models for future use.
•    Work closely with the Business Development team in New Zealand and to follow their practices so that models can be easily interpreted and operated by other team members.


Zespri Financial Structure understanding 
•    Must have a strong understanding of how value is created in the Zespri structure. As an example, must be familiar with the grower vs shareholder return calculations, customer profitability calculations, and financial models.


Develop strong relationships 
•    Develop strong relationships across the business, while at the same time during the business case development challenge the key assumptions, introduce new perspectives and ultimately lift the quality of the ‘brain-storming’.
•    Have a strong sense of customer needs and essentially act as a trusted business partner.

Team Culture and Communication 
•    Be part of a motivated, skilled team that reflects the Zespri target culture.
•    Maintain strong communication to ‘customers’.

Qualifications & Experience


•    Minimum of 10 years’ experience in working for an international organization
•    Minimum of 5 years experience working in a similar role in a commercial organization
•    People leadership experience (1 or 2 direct reports)
•    Experience in working in FMCG industry
•    Experience with IFRS 
•    Experience with budgeting / forecasting / variance analysis
•    Experience with SAP in FI/CO modules.  CO module experience is a strong plus
•    Strong IT literacy including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
•    Workshop facilitation and collaborative brain-storming
•    Awareness of “best practice” accounting and internal control processes
