He aha te mahi? What's the role?

 

The Accountant role will be based in our Tokyo office, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. You will be responsible for providing strong financial, governance and administrative support to Japan Accounting team. You will also help with the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and other compliance reporting obligations for both internal and external purposes.


Core Responsibilities

Lead month end closing process, complete reconciliations, investigate variances
– Ensure key account balances are reconciled to sub ledger and monthly trial balance
– Govern G/L account usage and review the daily transactions such as bank account, expense claim
– Complete month end journals in SAP and BS reconciliation by Blackline 

Undertake comprehensive review to ensure financial statements are accurate
– Ensure accuracy of transactions via proper coding and cost centre management
– Complete year-end closing process, IFRS Questionnaire and disclosure pack reporting

Complete the filing of local statutory reporting and tax obligations for the region
– Assist with the management of external audits, statutory accounts and compliance requirements
– Liaise with local service providers to ensure local tax regulations are complied with

Maintain comprehensive internal controls in line with Zespri policies.
– Prepare and cashflow forecasts to manage global requirements
– Monitor cashflow and request for funding when necessary
– Ensure regular intercompany balances settlement

Support Accounting Manager with achieving team objectives
– Other adhoc projects as and when needed, including credit cards, etc.
– Arrange the repayment dividends annually or as approved by the respective legal entity Board



Key Performance Measures

– Deliver monthly reconciliations on time for market with support from NZ
– Ensure that local accounting transactions have been coded correctly
– Ensure that tax and regulatory compliance are accurate and absolute
– Ensure that duties and taxes are paid on time for the region
– Other tasks and responsibilities as agreed from time to time

We are looking for a strong team player who shows independence, workplace adaptability and is willing to go above and beyond to grow in the company. You will also meet the following criteria:

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a medium to large organization
  • Competence in Excel and SAP S4 Hana.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Japanese
  • Experience with assisting the preparation of corporate tax returns, VAT and Withholding Tax returns
  • Qualified with an Accounting Degree qualified or 2nd grade Japanese Nissho Bookkeeping
  • ACCA, Chartered Accountancy qualification or equivalent will be an advantage
