As a Quality Systems Specialist at Zespri, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring our kiwifruit consistently meets the highest standards. You’ll manage and continually develop our Phytosanitary and Non-Phytosanitary systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory, certification, and specific market requirements. Your work will help us deliver top-quality products that meet customer expectations and uphold Zespri’s strong brand reputation.

 

Please note, this is a 10 month fixed term parental leave cover contract.  

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Oversee daily operations of the Zespri phytosanitary program, ensuring documentation meets MPI protocols and is delivered on time.
  • Conduct annual reviews of the Phytosanitary & Non-Phytosanitary Quality Systems, consulting with internal and external stakeholders on necessary updates.
  • Lead and manage audits, including the IVA Phytosanitary Systems Audit and others relevant to the Phytosanitary Program.
  • Develop metrics to assess system performance, analyze outcomes, and drive improvements across the post-harvest industry.
  • Implement and coordinate pest identification processes, managing systems to capture data and ensure compliance.
  • Stay ahead of changing regulatory and market requirements by developing and monitoring responsive systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Post-Harvest Facilities, Certification Bodies, NZ regulators, and auditors.
  • Create and deliver training programs for stakeholders on the Phytosanitary program.
  • Contribute to team planning and strategy within the Quality Systems Team.

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Horticulture or Science (preferred).
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of MPI Phytosanitary Systems.
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in Quality Systems and Phytosanitary Programs, with a background in the primary sector or horticulture being desirable.
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and manage complex work programs.
  • Experienced in managing large, cross-functional projects.
