About The Role

 

Wharf Fruit Inspector

 

We have fixed term positions available which require the availability to work flexible hours throughout the kiwifruit shipping season March – November.


The purpose of these positions is to undertake Export Consignment Product Inspection, i.e., fruit inspection, at the Port of Tauranga Zespri facility and/or industry cool stores to ensure product meets ZESPRI International Limited (ZIL) specifications.


The season runs from March to late November, and hours of work are dependent on ship loading so can be variable. Fruit Inspectors must be able to work weekends and early morning starts (from around 6:30am) and be flexible due to the moving nature of the shipping schedule during these months.  
 

Accountabilities

 

  • Assist and complete fruit inspections at Port of Tauranga ECPI facility and industry cool stores as required.
  • Maintain accurate audit records of fruit inspection findings.
  • Achieve and maintain competency as a proficient ZIL Fruit Inspector.
  • Identify all fruit quality and food safety issues and communicate these to Wharf ECPI Team Lead.
  • Operate an electric pallet jiffy to move kiwifruit pallets.
  • De-stack and stack kiwifruit pallets, using strapping tool as required.
  • Undertake activities in adherence with Port of Tauranga, kiwifruit industry and Zespri Health & safety policies.
  • Undertake or assist with ad hoc tasks and projects as required.
     

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Good numeracy skills, ability to count fruit defects.
  • Ability to write clearly, succinctly, and correctly to record fruit inspection results.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn Zespri fruit grade standards.
  • Electric pallet jiffy operation advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of kiwifruit quality and industry is advantageous but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety desirable.
  • Physically fit and healthy to complete physical work including jiffy operation, pallet stacking and long periods of time standing at inspection tables.
