What's the role?

 

The Korea Grower Services and Extension Manager is to manage the local team which main objectives are rapid orchards establishment, high orchard productivity, high taste fruit and high level of knowledge of all growing partners.


Key Responsibilities include: 

 

1. Grower Services - Site Selection:

  • In conjunction with the Korea Commercial Supply Manager, make sure that site inspection are properly operated for any new orchard sites identified by grower. 
  • Screen out unsuitable sites by registering possible irreparable risks. 

 

2. Grower Services - Plant Material Management

  • Make sure that nurseries are successful by providing enough horticulture support in order to supply class 1 plants and meet the growers’ demand.  
  • Make sure that regular reports on supply versus demand and costs implication are shared with managers, and make sure any waste of plants/write-off are avoid.
  • Make sure the budwood collection and grafting for all growers are properly organized. 

 

3. Growers Services - On Orchard Direct Support

  • Offer proactive onsite technical advice and provide trouble-shooting to orchardists when necessary
  • Make sure that notes are taken during visits and reporting back to growers, technicians and the team. 
  • Use on orchard visits to get wider view on the Korea situation and get ideas to share with all growers. 

 

4. Growers Services – Innovation 

  • In conjunction with other Korean team and Innovation team (mainly New Zealand), manage all Innovation projects related to growers practices and inputs. 
  • Take part in all steering group, organize orchards trials and make sure results are shared with the team, technicians and growers.

 

5. Growers Services – New Cultivar Development 

  • Manage the programme for New Varieties with regular reports and robust data collection. 

6. Extension – General

  • In conjunction with the Asia Grower Services and Extension Manager and the team, setting an Extension Program for each season, related to the objectives of ZGS Korea.

 

7. Extension – Acquiring Knowledge

  • Manage the Knowledge Acquisition Program including trials, data collection and demonstration. 
  • Make sure that every trials/projects come with a Project description, stat analysis and report afterwards. 
  • Gather knowledge from consultants, experts and growers to increase local knowledges such as Pest & Disease, weather impacts and other locals issues. 
  • Keep up to date with new technical ideas and innovations from other kiwifruit countries that may be relevant to Zespri's kiwifruit production.

 

8. Extension – Share/diffuse Knowledge

  • Make sure that information are shared with all growers and technicians thanks to numerous and good quality resources (videos, guides, translation of the Kiwifruit Journal). Make sure that these resources are shared within appropriated channels. 
  • Make sure that all events (field-days, workshops…) are well organized, run and evaluate afterwards by the team.  

 

9. Extension – Measure practices uptake

  • Set-up a system to be able to measure the efficiency of the Extension program and Grower Services support, with accurate and robust measurement on practices uptake and impact on the productivity.

 

10. Team Management

  • Set annual objectives and review team members’ performances on regular basis. 
  • In conjunction with the Asia Grower Services and Extension Manager, develop team members in appropriated areas such as Extension, communications, horticulture

Who are you?

 


We are looking for someone who has strong technical knowledge and practical skills in fruit production. You will have proven track record of leadership capabilities, and the successful candidate will also have: 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in horticulture or similar 
  • Able to drive in Korea (Korean or international license)
  • Experience in the technical / science arena preferably with graduate qualification in  agricultural or horticultural science, and possibly in team management
  • Computer literacy in applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluency English and Korean due to the nature of the role
  • Flexibility on work hours, particularly through the busy season September - December. Some weekend work will be required, and out of hours accessibility by phone/email required especially through the busy season.
