Reporting to the Innovation Manager Europe, you will support Zespri’s research initiatives to optimize production of kiwifruit and support the successful implementation of Zespri’s 12-month European supply strategy, through the development of productivity research programmes that will support the Kiwifruit industry in Italy and other key producing areas in Europe (primarily France).

 

Based in Aprilia, this role may require travelling throughout Europe and overseas as required by Zespri, to stay abreast of new research developments and to support the building of knowledge and key relationships. This role also has a matrix connection to the Innovation function in New Zealand where funding, governance, methodology and processes are centralized.

 

 The responsibilities include: 

 

  • Assist with the delivery of ongoing research projects focused on improving orchard productivity, plant protection and biosecurity and future growing systems. 
  • Arrange and support the collection of  samples (soil, fruit, etc.) from trial sites.
  • Organize and execute the collection of data from trials.
  • Report data to Innovation leaders on a regular basis.
  • Support Innovation leaders in drafting project descriptions (PDs) and trial protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations with trial results.
  • Assist in producing final written reports.
  • Support the Innovation leaders in managing relationships with research providers if necessary (from contracts to invoicing).
  • Complete other projects or tasks as required.
  • Ensure Zespri polices including Health and Safety are followed at all times.

We are looking for an individual who holds a Masters qualification in scientific subjects preferably reflecting knowledge in horticulture. 

 

The successful candidate will also have:

 

  • Strong communication skills and capacity to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated experience on analyzing datasets.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
  • Fluent in Italian and English.
  • Setting high standards in terms of personal values and being results driven in the context of guardianship for our land and people.
  • Growth mindset with personal flexibility and the capacity for driving or responding to change, dealing with ambiguity, and adapting to suit different circumstances/cultures, working across time-zones etc.
